I've been using Linux since 1995 or so and I've never seen a kernel panic. Gave the keyboard to my 1-yo son and he showed me one in 3 secs.

Google not only reserves the right to take away or vaporize our data for any reason, but it also reserves the right to discontinue services, the means to access it, whenever it wants. It does this more often than you probably realize and most recently with Google Reader, which disappears on July 1.

Painted letters from 1882, found while browsing Patricia's uploaded ephemera on Flickr. I digitised Monstre to use across titles, logos, layouts and animations. Designers can manipulate five layers of lighting and shading to achieve the right look. Monstre retains original slight imperfections so as not to completely erase the feeling of the human touch when it was first coloured and shaded in 1882. Download the font, share it with friends, and email me if you use it in one of your projects. I'd love to see what you can do with it.

When Does Your Baby Become Conscious? - ScienceNOW

Cognitive neuroscientist Sid Kouider of CNRS, the French national research agency, in Paris watched for swings in electrical activity, called event-related potentials (ERPs), in the babies' brains. In babies who were at least 1 year old, Kouider saw an ERP pattern similar to an adult's, but it was about three times slower. The team was surprised to see that the 5-month-olds also showed a late slow wave, although it was weaker and more drawn out than in the older babies. Kouider speculates that the late slow wave may be present in babies as young as 2 months.

Metrics | Continuous Delivery: Anatomy of the Deployment Pipeline | InformIT

For the software delivery process, the most important global metric is cycle time. This is the time between deciding that a feature needs to be implemented and having that feature released to users. As Mary Poppendieck asks, "How long would it take your organization to deploy a change that involves just one single line of code? Do you do this on a repeatable, reliable basis?"4 This metric is hard to measure because it covers many parts of the software delivery process—from analysis, through development, to release. However, it tells you more about your process than any other metric.
