Open Source CMSes are the latest rage it seems, and we've tried out dozens. One that stands out above the rest for small businesses and personal networks is the Elgg open source "social engine," which can be used to create social applications. A respected Swiss scientist, Conrad Gessner, might have been the first to raise the alarm about the effects of information overload. In a landmark book, he described how the modern world overwhelmed people with data and that this overabundance was both "confusing and harmful" to the mind. [...] It's worth noting that Gessner, for his part, never once used e-mail and was completely ignorant about computers. That's not because he was a technophobe but because he died in 1565. His warnings referred to the seemingly unmanageable flood of information unleashed by the printing press.

To date, studies suggest there is no consistent evidence that the Internet causes mental problems. RPX provides a fully managed sign-in interface that is quick and easy to add to your website. It helps the user choose a sign-in provider, and remembers their decision next time they visit your site, for a one-click login experience. The interface is available either as a javascript popup, or as an IFrame embeded directly into your page.

Adding Facebook Share to your website is easy. However, you can enhance how the shared item appears on Facebook by configuring how it gets previewed on a user's profile and when a user tries to share it. You do this with a combination of <link> and <meta> tags. Facebook Share passes along the URL of your page to our servers, which in turn looks up certain HTML tags within it. Those tags are used to display a preview of the page. In order to provide this preview, we always look for the title of the page, a summary of the main content and an image. If there's media content on the page, those media files are also important to identify.

What is Plurk?

A really snazzy site that allows you to showcase the events that make up your life, and follow the events of the people that matter to you, in deliciously digestible short messages called plurks.

In games like Mafia Wars, Farmville, YoVille and Vampires Live, you know, some of the major sources of all those garbage announcements cluttering up your Facebook, players compete to complete missions and level up. By leveling up, you can complete more difficult missions and fight off weaker opponents. You can wait for your various energies to regenerate naturally over time, or you can purchase with real money in-game boosts. Or, you can complete various lead generation offers, many of which are of the "answer page after page of questions and opt in and out of receiving various kinds of spam" variety. Some of them install malware and adware that is impossible to remove. And some of them secretly subscribe you to monthly recurring $9.99 credit card charges.

Edwyn Collins has been barred from streaming his own song through MySpace. Management for the former Orange Juice frontman have been unable to convince the website that they own the rights to A Girl Like You, despite the fact that they, er, do.

By default, Facebook’s privacy settings let applications access information on your profile even if you have restricted access to a specific network or friend group (as application privacy settings are separate from profile privacy settings). In addition, Facebook’s default settings allow applications run by your friends to pull information from your profile. Surprised? Check out your settings and see for yourself!

FriendFace works along the same principles as a cold or a terrible plague.

Each FriendFace page is like a petri dish filled with friendship germs.
