jq

stedolan.github.io/jq/, posted Apr '15 by peter in conversion free javascript shell software

jq is like sed for JSON data – you can use it to slice and filter and map and transform structured data with the same ease that sed, awk, grep and friends let you play with text.

jq is written in portable C, and it has zero runtime dependencies. You can download a single binary, scp it to a far away machine, and expect it to work.

jq can mangle the data format that you have into the one that you want with very little effort, and the program to do so is often shorter and simpler than you’d expect.

Keywhiz makes managing secrets easier and more secure. Keywhiz servers in a cluster centrally store secrets encrypted in a database. Clients use mutually authenticated TLS (mTLS) to retrieve secrets they have access to. Authenticated users administer Keywhiz via CLI or web app UI. To enable workflows, Keywhiz has automation APIs over mTLS and support for simple secret generation plugins.

Rigs of Rods is an open source vehicle simulator licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3. What makes Rigs of Rods different to most simulators is its unique soft-body physics: vehicles, machines, objects, etc. are simulated in real-time as flexible soft-body objects, giving the simulation an extremely accurate behavior which entirely depends on the physical construction of the vehicles or objects you create. The community contributes greatly to the game, giving it a vast selection of vehicles and terrains from which you can choose.

Profiling data can be thousands of lines long, and difficult to comprehend. Flame graphs are a visualization for sampled stack traces, which data allows hot code-paths to be identified quickly. See the Flame Graphs main page for uses of this visualization other than CPU profiling.

Flame Graphs can work with any CPU profiler on any operating system. My examples here use Linux perf_events, DTrace, SystemTap, and ktap. See the Updates list for other profiler examples, and github for the flame graph software.

Define user behaviour with Python code, and swarm your system with millions of simultaneous users.

Sysdig is open source, system-level exploration: capture system state and activity from a running Linux instance, then save, filter and analyze. Think of it as strace + tcpdump + lsof + awesome sauce.

With a little Lua cherry on top.

The BFG is a simpler, faster alternative to git-filter-branch for cleansing bad data out of your Git repository history:

Hyperfox is a security tool for proxying and recording HTTP and HTTPs communications on a LAN.

Hyperfox is capable of forging SSL certificates on the fly using a root CA certificate and its corresponding key (both provided by the user). If the target machine recognizes the root CA as trusted, then HTTPs traffic can be succesfully intercepted and recorded.
