Our purpose is rather simple. We want to make the internet as open as possible. Currently only a select few corporations have a complete and useful index of the web. Our goal is to change that fact by crawling the web and releasing as much information about its structure and content as possible. We plan on doing this in a manner that will cover our costs (selling our index) and releasing it for free for the benefit of all webmasters. Obviously, this goal has many potential legal, financial, ethical and technical problems. So while we can't promise specific results, we can promise to work hard, share our results, and help make the internet a better and more open space.

When I found out about fcsh, tried it out and saw how much faster it was than mxmlc, of course I wanted to immediately start using it instead in my build scripts. The biggest problem with doing this, though, is the fact that the basic operation of these two programs is fundamentally different: when you run mxmlc, it compiles the project, prints some messages to standard output and then exits

[...]. Fcsh, on the other hand, throws you into a shell of its own and expects you to essentially operate it from within itself (instead of simply calling it with some arguments and then having it return with some standard output and an exit status like mxmlc).

I tried to search for a solution to this problem that somebody else might have come up with but didn’t find an adequate one (a list of the ones that I could find is further down), so I decided to give it a shot myself.

Computer programs can make your computer use more power. PowerTOP is a Linux tool that helps you find those programs that are misbehaving while your computer is idle. The application that misbehaved the most was the Linux kernel. However, as of version 2.6.21, the Linux kernel went tickless, and no longer has a fixed 1000Hz timer tick. The result (in theory) is huge power savings because the CPU stays in low power mode for longer periods during system idle.

Have you ever asked yourself which of two given jpegs (same size) is the "original", i.e. which one was saved with higher quality? No? Then Go Away... Yes? Then Read On...
